The Case of the Missing Zzzs is a pillow book — a soft, unhurried journal made for the last quiet hour of the day, when you'd rather wander through a page than scroll through a screen. It's for the Golden Age cozy mystery reader in all of us: the armchair detective who likes their intrigue gentle, their detectives familiar, their tea warm, and their bedtime a little bit whimsical.

Inside you'll find playful writing prompts with a cozy-mystery wink — plan the seating chart for a Mystery Writers Dinner Party, catalog the things that are only pleasant in books, or consider the ones you'd secretly like to try in real life. Nothing taxing, nothing that spikes your brain awake. Just small, delightful invitations to put a few thoughts on paper and let the day settle.

Think of it as part of every sleepy sleuth's toolkit — as essential as Sherlock's pipe or Miss Marple's knitting needles. Pull on your cozy slippers, pick up a pencil, and write your way to sleep.

It’s worth mentioning that we aren’t finished. Just like you, we open the book at bedtime and stare at the page. If we think of a book set in an antique shop, for instance, we might write Wrack and Rune in the right space on A Place for a Mystery but we are equally likely to get up, scan our bookshelves to find Charlotte MacLeod’s gorgeous series set at Balaclava College, and start reading Rest Ye Merry. Because you can’t start a beloved series in the middle even if it’s your twentieth time reading it. At least we can’t.

We did imagine a great conversation for our dinner with Agatha Christie, Charlotte MacLeod, Emma Lathen, and Donna Andrews but we won’t share the details here.

It’s enough to admit that we gushed and made complete fools of ourselves.
